Brief Summary  
The present study, titled "Effects of Combined Repeated Sprint and Plyometric Training on Neuromuscular Performance and Balance in Football Players," investigates the impact of an integrated training approach on physical performance and balance capabilities among football athletes.
Football is a physically demanding sport that requires rapid acceleration, sudden directional changes, and explosive movements such as jumping and sprinting. These actions place considerable stress on the neuromuscular system and demand high levels of coordination, strength, and balance. However, conventional football training programs often prioritize endurance and tactical skills over neuromuscular development and balance enhancement, potentially overlooking key performance and injury prevention factors.
This study focuses on two widely supported training methods—Repeated Sprint Training (RST) and Plyometric Training (PT). RST enhances anaerobic capacity, speed, and fatigue resistance, while PT boosts reactive strength, muscular power, and neuromuscular coordination through movements like depth jumps and lateral bounds. Although both training methods are effective individually, their combined effects—particularly on balance and injury risk—have not been adequately studied in football populations.
The main aim of the study is to determine whether a 6-week combined RST and PT program can significantly improve neuromuscular performance (vertical jump height and agility) and dynamic balance in football players compared to a control group undergoing standard training. The hypothesis is that the intervention group will show superior improvements due to the synergistic benefits of combined explosive and reactive training methods.
The study employs a randomized controlled trial design involving 88 male football players aged 18–25 years, randomly allocated into two groups: an intervention group (RST+PT) and a control group (traditional training). Baseline and post-intervention assessments will include vertical jump tests (for lower-limb power), Illinois Agility Test (for directional speed and coordination), and the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) to evaluate dynamic balance. All measurements will be collected and analyzed by blinded assessors.
The intervention group will perform a structured RST+PT program three times per week for six weeks, with progressive intensity and complexity. RST exercises include repeated 20m sprints and directional sprints, while PT includes depth jumps, hurdle hops, and single-leg box jumps. The control group will follow a regular football training schedule without specific sprint or plyometric additions.
The need for the study arises from the limited evidence on the combined training effects on balance and performance, especially in the context of football. Improving balance may help reduce the risk of common injuries like ankle sprains and ACL tears, making this research relevant for athlete health and performance optimization.
This study could provide essential insights for coaches and physiotherapists in designing more effective, sport-specific conditioning programs. By addressing both performance and injury prevention through integrated training, the findings may support the development of holistic athletic training protocols for football players
