Brief Summary
|
The title of the study is "Role of Anxious Attachment and Maladaptive Perfectionism in Body Image Dissatisfaction among Young Adults"Aim of the study: To examine the role of anxious attachment and maladaptive perfectionism in body image dissatisfaction among young adults.
Objective(s) of the study: Primary objective: To investigate the relationship between anxious attachment, maladaptive perfectionism and body image dissatisfaction among young adults. Secondary objective: To examine the role of maladaptive perfectionism in the relationship between anxious attachment and body image dissatisfaction among young adults.
Body image dissatisfaction is rising due to social media and societal pressures. The results of this study can help fight these contemporary issues by addressing underlying factors like perfectionism and insecure attachments. Addressing insecure attachment and perfectionism may improve body image and mental health.
The study following the approval from the Department of Clinical Psychology, Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, and the Institutional Research Committee (IRC), has been sent to the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) for review and clearance. Alongside receiving the ethical approval, registration under the Clinical Trials Registry, India will be completed.
A google form will be prepared consisting of Consent Form, Socio-demographic details and all the scales- Revised Adult Attachment Scale, Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-8C). The google form will be circulated to Indian university students aged 18 to 26 through various communication channels such as face-to-face interactions, email, and social media platforms and data will be collected. Students from MAHE, as well as other universities in India will be used as sample for the study. The form will be shared in student social media groups (e.g., WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook) and further disseminated through peer-to-peer networks, allowing students to forward the form to their contacts, thereby expanding reach organically. Data will be collected through voluntary participation via the form. Data collected will be securely stored and analyzed to maintain confidentiality. Standardized psychological scales will be used to ensure data reliability and accuracy.
Data collection will continue until the required number of participants has been achieved (116 participants)
