Brief Summary
|
Background: Adult-acquired flat foot (AAFF) is common among nurses due to prolonged standing. Factors like high BMI and weak gluteus medius (GMed) may worsen foot function. Aim: To assess the impact of BMI and GMed strength on AAFF in nurses using the Foot Function Index (FFI). Method: 120 female nurses (aged 40–50) were assessed using Navicular Drop Test, Jack’s test, BMI calculation, GMed strength via hand-held dynamometer, and FFI questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation. Results:
- High BMI strongly correlated with poor foot function (r = 0.972).
- Weak GMed showed strong negative correlation with FFI (r = –0.821).
- Combined group had worst scores (BMI r = 0.925, GMed r = –0.911).
- Neither group showed best foot function.
Conclusion: Both high BMI and weak GMed significantly affect foot function. Targeted interventions may help prevent AAFF in nurses.
