Brief Summary
|
Menstruation is physiological phenomenon occurring in female on attaining puberty. According to WHO, adolescent is defined as any person between the ages of 10 to 19 years. Menstruation usually commence between 10 and 16 years of age. Several studies reveal that awareness about menstruation is lacking in adolescent girls. Moreover, in developing countries menstruation is considered as taboo, hindering the females from social activities. Illiteracy among mothers has a huge impact on generating knowledge to their daughters. Menstruation causes significant stress and anxiety among adolescent girls, particularly regarding their understanding of the menstrual cycle and proper hygiene management. Healthy hygiene practises during menstruation overall improve the female health. This study aims at collecting on Knowledge, Attitude and Practices related to menstruation among school going adolescent girls in Payakapuram, Vijayawada. The study may forms a base for further studies where adequate intervention can be provided depending upon this result and also helps in planning future studies and developing strategies regarding menstrual health. |
