Brief Summary

The Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire (SBQ) is a validated tool used to measure time spent in sedentary activities and is critical in assessing health risks such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases, independent of physical activity. While tools like IPAQ and the Flemish Questionnaire partially assess sedentary behavior, they lack comprehensive coverage. With over 40.6 million Kannada speakers in Karnataka, there is a need to translate and culturally adapt the SBQ into Kannada (SBQ-K) to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural relevance. This study aims to translate the SBQ into Kannada, evaluate its psychometric properties, and support legal copyright registration. After obtaining ethical clearance and permission from the original author, a standard cross-cultural adaptation process will be followed, including forward translation by two native speakers, synthesis of versions, backward translation by two native English speakers, expert committee review, and pretesting with 20 participants to finalize the SBQ-K. Data will be collected using convenience sampling at RLJH-RC, Kolar, and analyzed using SPSS v23. Content validity will be assessed using the Content Validity Index (CVI), while reliability will be tested through parallel form testing and Cronbach’s alpha. Construct validity will be established using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. This adaptation will provide a reliable and culturally appropriate tool for assessing sedentary behavior in Kannada-speaking populations.
