Brief Summary
|
Introduction:
The
time and location of docking the hand and eye on the object should be
synchronized, for efficiently performing a goal-oriented task. Under anxiety an
individual toils to perform a task and an increased dependency in daily
activities could be attributed to a decline in Eye Hand Coordination (EHC). It
can thus be stated that anxiety sways the performance behaviour by impacting
perception and working memory.
Aim:
To
determine if the game of Jenga can be an indicator of anxiety among
post-graduate dental students.
Methodology:
The
game of Jenga was chosen to determine the eye-hand co-ordination and anxiety
levels of different post-graduate students. A secondary objective of this study
was to determine work-place related stress. In order to satisfy our goals, 30
post-graduate (PG) students with normal or corrected to normal vision who
scored more than 13 on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale were included. These
students were further divided into four groups (n=15 each). Group I and Group 2
included PG students managing paediatric patients who played Jenga outside
their work place and inside their work place respectively. Group 3 and Group 4
included PG students managing adult patients who played Jenga outside their
work place and inside their work place respectively. The game of Jenga is
played by each participant for 15 minutes and is composed of 54 hardwood
blocks, where a player removes wooden blocks from a stacked tower formation and
place it on top of the tower which will make it less stable was used to assess
EHC. The scoring of EHC depended on the number of blocks the participant could
place on top of the tower without making it fall. Result: Awaited Conclusion: Awaited |
