Details  1. Stage III grade A periodontitis:
-CAL more than 5 mm
-Bleeding on probing(BOP) in at least 30% of the teeth/sites
-Pocket depth of more than 6 mm
-Bone loss extends to the middle or apical third of affected roots
-Tooth loss due to periodontitis involving no more than 4 teeth.
2. Patients ready to comply with oral hygiene measures.
3. Patients free from any systemic disease or taking drugs that affect healing.  
 
ExclusionCriteria 
Details  1. Patients with any known systemic diseases.
2. History of any recent infections within 6 months of study.
3. Smokers
4. Patients on any antibiotics for 3 months.
5. Pregnancy / lactation.
6. Patients with prior history of periodontal therapy within 6 months of the study.
7. Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis/ Necrotizing Ulcerative Periodontitis.

Brief Summary   This study is a randomized controlled split-mouth, multicentre trial comparing the efficacy of photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to Scaling and Root Planing in patients with Stage III Grade A periodontitis that will be conducted in India at Government Dental College and Hospital, Cuddalore district, Chidambaram 608002. The primary outcome measures will be Probing Pocket depth evaluation at baseline and  1 month after intervention. The secondary outcomes will be the Gingival index, Plaque index, Clinical attachment level, and microbial load at baseline and  1 month after intervention.
