Brief Summary

Amavata is the particular type of disease which is the mentioned in Ayurveda since the period of Madhavakara 16th century A.D. under the category of Vata Kaphaja disorders.

Amavata develops due to Dushti or Prakopa of Ama as well as Vata dosha.

The clinical presentation of Amavata closely mimics with the special variety of rheumetological disorders called rheumatoid arthritis (R.A.), in accordance with their similaritis on clinical features, like pain , swelling .stiffness, fever, redness, general debility are almost identical.

The rheumatological disorder is such a group of diseases which has no specific medical management in any type of therapeutics. Amavata is the prime disease which makes the person unfit for an independent life and about 60% of the patients become unfit to work 10 years after the onset of the disease. The Ayurvedic approach toward the treatment of Amavata is the need of our as no system is successful in providing a complete cure to this disease

For the treatment of Amavata Acharya Chakradutta and Acharya Bhavmishra explained that Langhana, Swedana , Dipana with Tikta and Katu Rasapradhan dravya and Virechana followed by Shamana Snehpana

After Langhana, Swedana and Tika, Katu, Deepana dravyas, doshas Attain nirama avastha and may require elimination from the body by shodhana. Symptoms of Amavata like Anaha, vibandha, Antrakujana, kukshishula etc. are indicated of pratiloma gati of vata. This is best conquered by Virechana.

Dipana Yoga (Vaishvaner Churna) having Tikta and Katu rasatmaka, Ushna,Tikshna, Sukshma, gunatmaka. They have qualities of Dipana , Pachana and Anulomaka, which helps in the Pachana of Ama and subsides the aggravate Vata dosha.

Amrita Shunthi Ghrita is for Shodhanartha helps to subsides Amavata and prepare the body for Virechana to carry the doshas from Shakha to Kostha.

Virechana with Trvrittadi churna is recommended treatment for Amavata after Deepana Pachana which also helps to subsides aggravated vata in Amavata.

Acharya Vagbhata mentioned in Sutrasthana chapter 16 that after Shodhan karma, Snehana should be advised for Bala.
