Brief Summary
Modification(s)
In Vatarakta, both Vata and Rakta gets vitiated by exposed of their respective Nidana. The dushit Rakta Dhatu obstruct the passage of Vata dosha. Due to obstruction Vata dosha cause worsening of vikruti of Vata dosha. Continuing the pathology the severely vitiated Vata dosha also further disturbs the dusta Rakta Dhatu. This is known as Vatarakta.

Vatarakta is a disorder of Vata Dosha which is associated with Dushya Rakta, the chief complaint of patients is joint pain with onset from Hasta, Padangushtamulagata sandhi & then it migrates to other joints in a way similar to ’Akhuvisha’s. (Rat Poison). The disease which is most commonly seen in kudhavata i.e. near the ankle or in smaller joints. The classical symptoms include Shvayathu, Bheda, Toda, Shoola, Sparshasahatva

Considering, the clinical presentation and textual references of the disease it can be correlated with ’Gout’ explained in modern medicine.

Gout is the most common type of inflammatory arthritis and is associated with impaired quality of life. The formation and deposition of monosodium urate crystals takes place in and around joints as serum uric acid levels rise and the physiological saturation threshold for uric acid is exceeded in the body fluids. Clinical manifestations of mono sodium urate crystal deposition include acute attacks of severe pain and inflammation affecting peri-pheral joints, most commonly the first metatarso- phalangeal joint

Shatavari Ghrita was mentioned in Bhaishajya Ratnawali in the management of Vatarakta disease. It includes Shatavari, Goghrita and Godugdha. Shatavari has Madhura, Tikta Rasa, Guru, Snigdha Guna, Madhura Vipaka and Sheeta Virya. It acts on Vata and Pitta Dosha. Shatavari helps in reducing burning sensation, due to having Sheeta Virya, and Madhur Vipaki. It reduces pain due to guru, singdha guna and madhur vipaki. These all properties help in reducing Vata and Rakta vitiation. Shatavari acts as vataghna and raktadushtihar. Shatavari has pharmacological actions like Antioxidant; Anti-Inflammatory and Immunomodulation.

The determination of uric acid in serum is most commonly performed for the diagnosis of gout Increased uric acid levels are also found in leukemia, polycythemia and conditions associated with decreased renal function.

Uric Acid is a normal waste product that body makes when it Breaks down chemicals called Purines.

If uric acid builds up in in the blood it can Form needle shaped Crystals in around Joint This Condition is called Gout.
