Background:
Osteoporosis is a major public health issue, with low awareness and poor preventive practices contributing to its burden. This study aims to assess knowledge, health beliefs, and associated factors influencing osteoporosis prevention in a community setting.
Objectives:
1. Evaluate knowledge and health beliefs about osteoporosis.
2. Assess the association between knowledge, beliefs, and preventive behaviors (e.g., calcium intake, exercise).
3. Identify barriers to osteoporosis prevention in the community.
Methods:
• Study Design: Cross-sectional, community-based study.
• Location: Tondiarpet, Chennai.
• Sample Size: 384 participants.
• Data Collection:
• Validated osteoporosis knowledge questionnaire.
• Osteoporosis Health Belief Scale (OHBS).
• Self-reported lifestyle and preventive behaviors.
• Analysis: Descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis.
Expected Outcome:
The study will identify gaps in awareness, misconceptions, and barriers to osteoporosis prevention, helping design targeted health education programs to improve preventive practices.
