Primary Outcome
|
| Outcome |
TimePoints |
Rectus abdominis muscle (RAM) and rectus femoris muscle (RFM) thickness measured by ultrasonography will be recorded on both
sides for each patient. Sensitivity, Specificity, Positive and Negative predictive
values, and accuracy of RAM and RFM, Area under curve (AUC) will be calculated
mNUTRIC score will be calculated for each patient based on the five variables -
Age, APACHE II, SOFA, Number of comorbidities, and days from hospital to ICU
admission |
After admission to the ICU, within the first 24 hours |
|
|
Secondary Outcome
|
| Outcome |
TimePoints |
Length of ICU stay is noted
The need and duration of invasive mechanical ventilation is noted.
Patient status (Alive/ Dead) is noted |
Patients after admission to ICU will be followed till discharge or upto 28 days, whichever is earlier |

Brief Summary
|
Nutritional status plays a pivotal role in the prognosis and recovery of critically ill patients. Several scoring systems and tools are used to determine nutritional risk. However, only a few of them are useful in critically ill patients. The modified Nutrition Risk in Critically Ill (mNUTRIC) scoring system is recommended for screening. Although it is not the gold standard but is the most widely accepted and studied standard scoring system. There is a paucity of Nutritional risk assessment tools and methods providing quantitative results specific to critically ill patients. we are conducting this study to find a quantitative and practical evaluation method by determining the correlation of ultrasonographic measurement of rectus abdominis and rectus femoris muscle thickness in critically ill patients in the ICU with mNUTRIC score. |
