gufoni maneuver |
In the Gufoni maneuver, the patient is sitting looking straight and is then moved quickly so that the patient lies on one side (on the healthy side for a geotropic case, on the affected side for an apogeotropic case). After lying in this position for 2 minutes, the patient turns the head down by 45 degrees, maintaining this position for 2 more minutes, and then is returned to a sitting position.
Repeat the maneuver 4 times per session

Brief Summary
|
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a common peripheral vestibular condition, with horizontal canal BPPV being more common than previously reported. Patients with BPPV have impaired balance ability, increased disability, and longer symptoms. The Gufoni maneuver, designed to reposition displaced otoconia within the semicircular canals of the inner ear, has emerged as a potential treatment option. However, there is a lack of evidence supporting its efficacy and impact on balance and quality of life. The study aims to evaluate the effect of the Gufoni maneuver on balance and quality of life in participants with horizontal canal BPPV, as it could potentially improve daily functioning and overall well-being. |
