Brief Summary

Introduction: Cataract is the main cause of visual impairment and preventable blindness in population aged 50 and more than 50 years. Increase in age, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, alcohol use, tobacco use and exposure to sunlight are main risk factors for cataract development. The prevalence of cataract is higher in low-income locality compared to high-income locality and also higher among Older Population. So this study will be conducted among a population, aged 50 and older.

Aim :The Aim of this study is to find the prevalence of cataract, it’s risk factors and barriers of cataract surgery among older population in tertiary care centre of vidarbh region.

Methodology :Approved by the local ethics committee, this study will enroll patients coming from vidarbh region aged 50 or above at AVBRH sawangi , Wardha. Using descriptive cross sectional study patients will be interviewed using semi structured performa and examined accordingly .

By simple randomized sampling patients were examined for presence of unilateral or bilateral cataract and asked for what are the risk factors associated with cataract development and what barriers they face for till now not going for treatment , The data collection for this descriptive cross-sectional study will be done over a period of 2 years
