Brief Summary
|
This research intends to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes related to e-cigarette consumption among medical students at RUHS College of Medical Sciences (CMS) in Jaipur. With the increasing popularity of e-cigarette usage, particularly among youth and young adults, it is critical to comprehend how prospective healthcare professionals view these products. Medical students represent a key demographic for this investigation as they are in a crucial phase of their professional education, during which their knowledge and perspectives will influence future patient encounters and shape public health initiatives. Significance of the Research: As future healthcare practitioners, medical students are vital in informing the public about the advantages and dangers of new health phenomena, such as e-cigarettes. Given their responsibilities in preventive health, medical students must possess a thorough understanding of e-cigarettes, encompassing the risks involved, the likelihood of nicotine addiction, and the potential long-term health consequences. As studies on the detrimental effects of e-cigarettes progress, assessing the current level of knowledge among medical students will reveal gaps in information and opportunities for educational improvement. Effects of Nicotine on the Body: Nicotine is a highly addictive compound that significantly impacts various systems in the body, including the cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems. It raises heart rate, blood pressure, and the likelihood of atherosclerosis, which can lead to cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, nicotine disrupts brain neurotransmitter systems, potentially impairing cognitive abilities, especially in young adults, and fostering dependency and addictive habits. Health Risks Associated with E-Cigarettes: While commonly promoted as a safer substitute for traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes carry numerous health risks. The aerosol inhaled from e-cigarettes contains harmful substances, such as nicotine, volatile organic compounds, and heavy metals, which can harm lung tissue and elevate the chance of respiratory issues. Additionally, e-cigarette use may act as a gateway to other tobacco products, particularly among the youth, and is linked to addiction and long-term dependency. In summary, this research will offer valuable insights into medical student’s knowledge and attitudes toward e-cigarettes, identify potential educational requirements, and ultimately aid in informed policymaking and health promotion efforts aimed at curtailing e-cigarette usage and nicotine addiction among young adults and reducing usage and advocacy among medical students. |
