Brief Summary
Modification(s)
This randomized controlled study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Indian classical instrumental music (Raga Todi) on serum cortisol, serum total cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and anxiety levels in healthy young adults. A total of 110 participants were randomly allocated into intervention and control groups. The intervention group listened to Indian classical instrumental music (Raga Todi) for 30 minutes daily, six days per week, for 12 weeks, while the control group continued their routine activities without music intervention. Baseline and post-intervention assessments included serum cortisol, serum total cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) scores. The study demonstrated that regular listening to Indian classical music significantly reduced anxiety, serum cortisol, and fasting blood glucose levels, with a favorable trend toward reduction in serum total cholesterol, suggesting that Indian classical music may serve as a simple, safe, and non-pharmacological intervention for stress reduction and improvement of metabolic health in young adults.
