Brief Summary
|
Children attending the diabetology out patient department will be recruited as per inclusion criteria. Patients and parents will be educated about the benefits of yoga therapy. After obtaining informed consent, intervention pack with standard yoga therapy will be taught to the patient. Semi structured proforma containing demographic and disease related data will be filled. Standard yoga therapy includes aasanas ,pranayama,and mudras. Yoga will be taught and patient will be advised to practice yoga at home for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. Regular phone calls will be made by the principal investigator to participants 2 times a week in order to facilitate compliance. Regualr insulin administration and diet advice will be followed. History about diet pattern and daily physical activities which may act as confounding factors will be taken into account.HbA1c levels and insulin requirements will be calculated at the beginning and at the end of three months. This study evaluates the effect of yoga on glycemic control and insulin requirements in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Aasanas -Surya namaskar, Uthita janu sirasasana, Pawanamuktasana, Navasana, Ardha matsyendrasana, Sarvangasana, Sethubhundasana, Trikonasana, Pachimottasana, Halasana.
