Brief Summary

This study will focus on the evaluation of nutrition education programs meant for enhancing knowledge, attitudes, and dietary practices of the elderly population residing in old age homes. The demographic change in India is a reflection of the fast aging happening all around the world. It will be reached by around 225 million seniors in 2050. There is a more probable occurrence of malnutrition amongst the aged, especially aged persons living in care institutes due to chronic illnesses, less intake of nutrients, and poor nutrition awareness.

Malnutrition in this population relates to the inadequacy of fundamental nutrients like vitamins D and B12, calcium, magnesium, and proteins, which further conditions like diabetes, osteoporosis, and hypertension. Many researches show that the elders living in aged homes generally have a worse nutritional condition compared to those residing with their family, primarily because of inadequate knowledge and access to proper diets.

This research will fill the knowledge gap towards the diet, health, and lifestyles of older adults in old age home concerning the perceptions towards healthy eating influenced by targeted nutrition education. The study will determine the effectiveness of promoting healthier dietary choices as well as preventing complications further on. By outlining the most effective strategies in engaging older adults in nutrition education and improving the quality of life of seniors in institutional care settings.
