ELECTROCAUTERY |
Using a 50 Hz radio frequency advanced cautery, the marked area will be excised. The area will be examined for any tissue tags or remnants. The application of electrocautery shall end once ideal crown height is achieved. Following this, periodontal dressing shall be given, and the patient shall be recalled for consequent scheduled follow ups at 3 days, 1 week, 2 week and 4 weeks. |
| Intervention |
Laser |
A 400-µm disposable tip, set to 0.8-1.5 watts, will be gently used in a paintbrush motion to remove the marked tissue and reveal enough tooth structure. The area will be carefully checked for any tissue remnants, which will be cleaned, and high-volume suction will be used to clear the laser plume and odor.
The application of intervention shall end once ideal crown height is achieved. Following this, periodontal dressing shall be given, and the patient shall be recalled for consequent scheduled follow ups at 3 days, 1 week, 2 week and 4 weeks. |

Brief Summary
|
This study shall compare the effectiveness of diode laser and electrocautery for gingivectomy in patients with pseudo pockets and gingival enlargement. It will be conducted as a randomized, split-mouth clinical trial involving 30 patients who meet the specified inclusion criteria. Various clinical parameters, including probing depth, gingival margin position, plaque index, gingival index, healing index, and patient-reported pain and discomfort, will be evaluated at baseline and over follow-up periods. The research aims to identify which technique offers superior outcomes regarding healing, pain management, and overall patient experience. The findings will contribute to improving clinical decision-making, providing dentists with evidence-based recommendations for selecting the most suitable technique. This research has the potential to advance periodontal surgery by optimizing patient care, minimizing discomfort, and ensuring effective management of gingival enlargement. |
