Brief Summary
|
BACKGROUND: Severe pain associated with hip fractures makes positioning for regional anaesthesia a challenge. Systemic administration of analgesics can have adverse effects. Individually, both the fascia iliaca block (FICB) and femoral nerve block (FNB) have been studied. However, there is little evidence comparing the two. The role of this study is to compare the overall efficacy of the two blocks in patients in patients with hip surgeries before positioning for spinal anaesthesia.
AIM: Primary aim : To assess the overall efficacy for pain relief during patient positioning for spinal anaesthesia
Secondary aim : To assess the quality of positioning during spinal anaesthesia Time to perform spinal anaesthesia Patient satisfaction
METHODOLOGY Inclusion criteria: Patients of ASA class 1,2 & 3 undergoing surgeries for hip fractures
Exclusion criteria: Patient refusal Previous adverse reactions to local anaesthesia Patients on anticoagulant & antiplatelet drugs
Groups: FNB Group: 15ml of 0.5% Ropivacaine FICB Group: 40 ml of 0.5% Ropivacaine
Sample size: 40 patients, 20 in each group
Place of study and duration of study: Bhaskar Medical College and General Hospital 20th March 2024 to 20th September 2024
RESULTS: To be tabulated using appropriate software and published. |
