Brief Summary
|
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a heterogeneous disorder characterised by excessive androgen production by the ovaries mainly. It is a multifactorial and polygenic condition. Oligomenorrhea and or anovulation, clinical and or biochemical hyperandrogenism, ultrasound appearance of polycystic ovaries are the criterion for diagnosing PCOS. Menstrual bleeding occurring more than 35 days apart and which remains constant at that frequency is called oligomenorrhea. Ayurveda and yoga have pivotal role in the treatment and prevention of Oligomenorrhea. Yogasanas help to stimulate the functions of the reproductive organs, relieves menstrual discomfort and normalizes the menstrual cycle, increases blood flow to the reproductive organs and enhances the functions of the ovaries. Suntyadi churna is already proven for oligomenorrhea. This study aims at finding the add on effect of selected yoga techniques in oligomenorrhea associated with PCOS. It will be a quasi-experimental study with control group with a sample size of 46 cases with 23 in each group in women aged 18-35 years from Govt. Ayurveda Panchakarma Hosptal, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram. After collecting the baseline data of subjects, for the study group, selected yoga techniques along with suntyadi churna candy will be given at a dose of 12 gms before food twice daily and luke warm water as anupana and for control group suntyadi churna candy alone. Total duration of the intervention will be 3 months, excluding menstruation days. Menstrual interval, duration and amount of bleeding of each cycle of patients will be assessed on 0th ,91st, and120th day. |
