High velocity low amplitude thrust manipulation to thoracic spine and ribs. |
1. The individual will be asked to adopt prone position on the couch with face turned to either one side.
2. During exhalation, a single High velocity low amplitude thrust manipulation will be given to thoracic spine and ribs.
3. The thrust will be given only once to the thoracic spine and ribs.
4. Outcome measures will be assessed prior to and immediately after the manipulation. |

Individuals with breathing dysfunction, having score greater than 11 on Self Evaluation On Breathing Questionnaire [SEBQ]

| Details |
Any respiratory or cardiac disease
Previous h/o rib fracture, dislocation, sprains of costochondral, costosternal and interchondral joints.
General contraindications for mobilization (primary and secondary neoplastic lesions of spine and/or ribs.
Psychological conditions
Individuals taking any pain medications.
History of ankylosis spondylitis
Obvious advanced spinal deformity, e.g. kyphoscoliosis,
Healing fracture or dislocation, infections, e.g. TB, Non-neoplastic bone diseases
Any Spinal or Lower limb surgery
Any cervical pathology |

Brief Summary
|
The study is Single Arm Quasi Experimental study, studying the effects of high velocity low amplitude thrust on thoracic spine and ribs on respiratory parameters in individuals with breathing dysfunction. The study includes 40 individuals of age group 19 to 25 years and having a score greater than 11 on SEBQ [Self Evaluating Breathing Questionnaire]. The high velocity thrust will be given to the individuals and their immediate effects will be assessed pre and post treatment using pulmonary function test, breath hold test, chest wall expansion. |
